Summary

Mike has 30 years of construction experience, initially within the public sector at the Property Services Agency. Then in the private sector, firstly with BAA and subsequently with a number of quantity surveying and construction consultancies. Mike has spent a significant part of his career to date in private practice, undertaking a wide variety of projects and working with a diverse range of employer and contractor organisations and their teams, within the building, civil engineering, rail and water industries.

Project commissions have comprised a broad spectrum in terms of type, complexity, value, procurement route and contractual arrangement. They have included major commercial, retail and residential schemes, hospitals, hotels, prisons, other public buildings, building refurbishment projects, civil engineering road, bridge and dock works and also rail and water projects, throughout the United Kingdom and additionally within the former Soviet Union.

Mike has extensive experience in the analysis and resolution of complex commercial, contractual and management problems on major construction projects and has over the years developed considerable expertise in dispute avoidance and resolution, including claim preparation and defence, acting as an expert witness, a facilitator, mediator and adjudicator and also in providing support to client teams in adjudication, court and arbitration proceedings.

Other specialist experience includes project audit both in terms of compliance and also procedural efficiency reviews, PPP/PFI due diligence and project monitoring including working on behalf of developers and their funders.

Mike has lectured on commercial and contractual issues both in-house and to external clients. He is also an active member of the Society of Construction Law.
