Important news about Brewer Consulting - 14 March 2008

It is with great pleasure that I am able to advise you that on Friday 14 March 2008 the whole of the share capital of Brewer Consulting Limited was purchased by FTI Consulting Inc. of Baltimore USA.

FTI is a global business advisory firm dedicated to helping organisations protect and enhance their enterprise value. Brewer Consulting will be integrated into FTI's Forensic and Litigation Consulting division in order to develop its global Construction Solutions business. More information about FTI can be found at www.fticonsulting.com.

I believe that, whilst it is a much larger organisation than Brewer Consulting, FTI shares our key values; the desire to deliver high quality services in a way that adds real value to our clients’ businesses, through providing professional staff of the very highest calibre. This was a major consideration to the shareholders in agreeing to sell the business to FTI as it means we will be able to continue to provide the market leading services for which we have become so well known over the past eleven years.

This is an exciting step forward for Brewer Consulting and one that offers a tremendous opportunity to combine our strengths with those of FTI to enhance the range and scope of services we are able to bring to our clients. I am looking forward to it immensely.

All of the existing directors and staff of Brewer Consulting will remain with the business and are looking forward to continuing their relationship with existing clients and contacts in the industry. If you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me or any of my colleagues at Brewer Consulting.

Nov 2007 - Brewer Consulting announce new office...

We are delighted to announce that from 1 November 2007 Brewer Consulting has a new office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Brewer Consulting has been operating in the UAE from Dubai for approaching 3 years and has quickly established a reputation as a leading practice in procurement management and dispute resolution. In Dubai, we have built up a strong client base and are involved in several prestigious projects including The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Festival City and Burj Dubai. Our reputation for providing professional high quality services has led to other opportunities in the UAE and elsewhere in the Middle East.

The decision to open an office in Abu Dhabi was in response to a growing demand for our services in the emirate from the construction and the oil & gas sectors. It is anticipated that the Abu Dhabi office will play a significant role in the growth of Brewer Consulting in the region.

The Abu Dhabi office will be managed by Chris Larkin. Chris has worked in the UAE for almost 2 years. He is on the committee of the Society of Construction Law UAE and has had a number of articles on construction law topics published in Construction Week, the leading construction publication in the Middle East.

July 2007 - Brewer Consulting continues to grow...
We are delighted to announce that as of 1 July, Steve Briggs joined the Board of Directors at Brewer Consulting.

Since joining the Practice in September 2003, Steve has successfully managed a substantial portfolio of high profile expert appointments in his specialist field of planning and delay analysis and has greatly enhanced our expertise in this field.   Brewer Consulting continues to develop and expand its skills and resources in this area and Steve has agreed to lead this aspect of the business as it grows in the coming years, both in the UK and internationally.

Steve's background is cross-industry and he has wide experience in the management and planning of projects, including both strategic long-term planning and short-term detail programming.   A trained engineer, Steve has worked on ship building, civil engineering, building, process engineering and oil and gas projects as well as strategic planning of infrastructure and facilities projects.

Brewer Consulting has built a firm foundation for development over the next five years.   We plan continued growth at a rate that is firmly managed and controlled.   As with the past five years, our principal mechanism for control will be our focus on excellence in the professional work produced by the practice.

July 2005 - Message from Geoff Brewer
In April of this year, Brewer Consulting completed eight years of trading. These eight years have surpassed my expectations of what we would achieve both in terms of the first class reputation that Brewer Consulting has been able to establish and in the scale of operations we have been asked to advise upon.

By way of example, in the past year alone Brewer Consulting has been engaged to give strategic advice in connection with the following projects:
Independent review of the supply chain commitments and commercial and contractual arrangements planned by a successful bidding consortium for the London Underground PPP
Contract advisor to the review team appointed by a consortium of oil companies concerning the procurement and management of a $Cdn 4bn petrochemical complex in Alberta, Canada
Commercial advisor in connection with disputes arising on a £3.2bn UK rail infrastructure project
Appointed by the Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) to draft the new Major Client/Major Project design and build form of contract for publication in Summer 2002
Contract advisor on a US$ 600m chemical plant in Singapore for a multi national petrochemical company
Commercial advisor to a global French industrial gases company concerning substantial disputes on a gas production facility in the Netherlands
Advisor to the JV contractor to assist in the resolution of final accounts concerning the construction of the new British Embassy in Moscow.
In addition to these prominent commissions, staff at Brewer Consulting have been engaged as expert witnesses in a wide range of specialist disciplines, and have built up an extensive list of appointments as arbitrators, adjudicators and mediators.

Each week I continue to write for Contract Journal reporting the activities of the courts in dealing with construction matters. Inevitably over the past year a significant proportion of these articles have dealt with adjudication. Other topics have however included:
The measure of damages for breach of contract
An architect's duty to inspect construction works
The extent of a statutory authority's duty to exercise care
  Limitation periods
  Repudiation of contract
  Valuation of works
A client's direct payment to subcontractors
  Pay when paid clauses
The retrospective effect of contract terms
  Global claims
  The Civil Procedure Rules
Clauses operating as 'condition precedent' to entitlement
  Insurances
  Professional negligence
  Novation
Claims for additional overheads and profit.
Please use the search facility on this website to access these and many other articles which have been published in Contract Journal since 1996.

Brewer Consulting has built a firm foundation for our development over the next five years. We plan continued growth at a rate that is firmly managed and controlled. As with the past five years, our principal mechanism for control will be our focus on excellence in the professional work produced by the practice.
